With some luck most of the textiles will be clothes that can be reused. As long as the clothes are not torn or shredded people may still want to wear them. There are several markets with a different price tag for used clothing and all kinds of stores. In western Europe you’ll for example some main categories are:

  • Vintage clothes, highly priced by some customers
  • Clothes for second hand stores locally
  • Clothes for second hand stores in other part of Europe
  • Clothes for markets outside Europe

At the moment only people can be trained to sort the clothes into these categories. But with the emerging AI technology and cameras all around we might be able to learn this task to computers. Additional we will need robots to handle clothes for sorting, not a of the shelve task for robots. But first steps are there. We need to establish flexible criteria for the sorting as mode may vary and so prices for the items. And depending on season different items might be needed on the market. Research into these price predicition might also be of interest for sorters and resellers.
